A blank screen with a battery indicator usually means the Switch is already on but not charged enough yet. Check to see if charger is bent or charging port is bent. You can clean both (unplugged) with isopropyl alcohol on a charging port cleaner. They look like a qtip but are flat and get a lot of dirt out.. But after the battery of our old school switch with latest atmosphere running died it refuses to charge. Doesn't matter what charger we use, it just stays on completely empty battery and doesn't start.
