Suzuki TM400, TM250. SUZUKI TM MOTOCROSS MODELS INTRODUCTION Joel Robert was Suzuki's first Motocross World Champion in 1970 winning the 250cc class and after this success Suzuki introduced a production motocrosser. The Suzuki TM400R was manufactured for the 1971 season and coincided with the signing of Roger DeCoster in October 1970.. Suzuki sold the TM400 Cyclone from 1971 through 1975, but the machine was never a real winner. It was replaced in 1976 by the now-legendary RM370. We rode the Cyclone a couple times again that day, but at a more sedate pace, which was almost impossible since the bike seemed to want to rear-up at the least provocation or tank slap at the mere.

The 1974 TM400 used a 396 CC two stroke all aluminum air cooled single cylinder motor that produced 40 HP and 32 FTLBS of Torque. A five speed transmission and almost 9 inches of ground clearance made it a motocross dream…or nightmare. It weighed 238 pounds, had an unusually flexible frame and nearly non existent brakes.. Suzuki has built the competition-oriented TM400 from the ground up, and is the first Japanese manufacturer to take this approach with a large-bore dirt machine. That a marketingoriented Japanese manufacturer should do so will tell you something about the large number of racers and play-racers out "there."
