To follow-up (rest of the story), We had to send the vehicle to Mercedes to get the computer reset. The hatch still didn't work properly. It still wouldn't automatically close. We ended up looking at the closer motor and found the strut shock had come off. That is why is would sound like it was closing but no movement..
