Hi, I started using the OmniPod about a month ago and I've heard rumors that after 3 days, it will continue to pump in your basal rate for up to an additional 8 hours (80 hours total) even though it keeps periodically sounding its warning that the pod has expired. I can believe it acts in this manner since even after the pod has reached its advertised 3-day period, you still need to deactivate.. All Omnipod DASH products manufactured after December 6, 2022 now reflect the new extended shelf life. However, there are a few lots with the extended shelf-life show that still show the old 18-month expiration date in the inner packaging. The correct expiration date is captured in the outer box packaging. These products are on the list above.
I just had three Day 1 pod failures (within first 24 hours) in a row. My pods were 26-28 days expired. I have now chucked the last eight pods with that expiration date because I'm tired of wasting insulin since I purposefully don't recover the insulin out of the pods.. … and what exactly happens in the minutes leading to its expiration/deactivation? This what we tried to figure out today. We had a pod that was shown on our PDM as being activated 3 days ago at 10:01am (9/7/2017). We decided to ride it as long as we could, and test a bolus at the very end of it to see what would happen. Omnipod says that a pod should be changed 3 days (72 hours) after it has.
