Magnetite, a member of the spinel group, is similar to other dense, hard, dark-colored minerals. It is, however, characterized by its strong magnetism, which distinguishes it from ilmenite, chromite, and other similar looking minerals (Figure 14.338). Macroscopic euhedral crystals are uncommon, but form octahedra (Figure 14.339).. Spinel Web integrates most of the diagrams commonly used for analyzing the chemical characteristics of the spinel group minerals. It incorporates parallel coordinates and a 3D representation of the spinel prisms. It also provides coordinated views and appropriate interactions for users to interact with their datasets.

The spinel group minerals provide useful information regarding the geological environment in which the host rocks were. Spinel Web integrates most of the diagrams commonly used for analyzing the chemical characteristics of the spinel group minerals. It incorporates parallel coordinates and a 3D representation of the spinel prisms.. The spinel-type structure is adopted by many compounds with a cations-to-anions ratio of 3:4, typically represented by the general formula AB 2 X 4 where the letters (not italicized) A and B indicate constituents (not crystallographic sites) represented by a large number of different cations or vacancy and X represents anions, such as O 2-, S 2-, Se 2-, N 3-, Te 2- Cl 1-, (CN) 1.
