so yes. light does regret killing l near his end. he regrets it not being l he faces off against, because he wanted to see him there. he wanted to see him at the end. and maybe, at the end, he did - in the ending pan scene, we see l's ghost hovering over light's body. he saw l at the end. l's been waiting for him this whole time, anyway..
