Vampire spawn are much the same; their souls imprisoned in their shells are part of what keeps them "them", while under the sway of their masters. Still totally undead, but still with their souls.. But the human soul (their consciousness for the purpose of this question) moves onto the afterlife regardless. If we take Buffy's comments at face-value, there seems to be little motivation for a human to become a vampire. They are going to go the afterlife (good or bad) regardless.

If souls exist, which to me they seem to, then everything that is alive has one.
